May 27, 2011 saw the Oil Kings two Memorial Cup winning teams from the 1962-63 and 1965-66 seasons walk together into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as newly elected members. The occasion was the annual ASHOF induction ceremonies, and the two squads, plus the 1950 Waterloo Mecurys, were inducted along with some other very well known & well deserving individuals. Gregg Pilling and Bob Falkenberg represented their respective clubs at the podium, giving those in attendance a feel for the emotions of long ago, as well as the player's exhilaration felt on this special evening in Red Deer.
Three players remain especially unique, in that they were members of both cup winning teams. Right winger Ron Anderson, Centre Dave Rochefort and Defenceman Bob Falkenberg were all rookies on the '63 team. Each graduated from junior with their Cup win in 1966. Falky rose to be the captain of that 1965-66 team.
It was a gala and memorable evening. One that saw so many other well known & deserving athletes enter the Hall based upon their varied achievements. (SEE LIST BELOW).

It must have been an extra special night for Edmonton in general, to see 3 of it's hockey teams go in, plus all the individuals who cut their teeth & did their training in city facilities over the many years. Well done, everyone! For photos, go to our "PHOTO GALLERY".
